| HAUSCHKA / ANTENNA FARM (DE / UK)
Hauschka is Dusseldorf-based pianist / composer Volker Bertelmann, whose work is based upon an exploration of the possibilities of the ‘prepared’ piano, making it as much a machine for generating rhythm and texture as for melody. South London-based Antenna Farm is the duo of Alastair Leslie and David Howell, who utilise a wide range of source materials and approaches, navigating a unique, hybrid path through a mixture of analogue experiments, field recording, computer processing / editing and continuous improvised recycling.
The track on this compilation witnesses the first meeting of the two artists at the FatCat label’s ‘Open Circuit’ Festival in Hasselt, Belgium in February 2007. Having only met an hour before this performance, the live recording sees Antenna Farm take a live feed from Hauschka’s improvised piano playing, processing it in real time and re presenting it alongside their own computer generated tones and textures, as well as playing with found objects and inside of the piano. As the performance develops a dialogue is formed with the two parties taking turns to listen, respond and redirect the music.
